One of the emerging trends in kitchen design is the lack of dine details and complex shapes.  Instead, you’ll want to pay attention to simple shapes and sharp lines.  These characteristics will give your kitchen a minimalist look.  Metallic-looking surfaces can help give a kitchen a more modern or even futuristic look, but don’t discount the power of wood surfaces.  Wood can give your kitchen a warmth coziness that may be lacking otherwise, even if you only use it to accent certain areas.

Another trending style in kitchens is the use of a more muted color palette.  Using a muted color scheme with blacks, whites, grays, silvers, and beiges can give your kitchen a professional look.  Consider also adding brightly-colored accents to give your kitchen more flair and personality.

I have been so incredibly busy, you may have noticed the lack of posts…yeah…its been awkward, I can feel it too. Well its all been due to new jobs! I’ve started at a new company, and so far, it’s wonderful! I’ve also decided to do set design for my friend Sherren over at Sunday Afternoon Productions, who I also worked with on M&E. THAT, takes up a whole bunch of time. So for the next little while, I’ll only be popping up once in a while, with those posts I just can’t resist but to share.

Like this one! Clancy’s Fish Bar City Beach, located in Perth, Australia and designed by Paul Burnham. It has been…I dont want to jinx anything…warming up here, and stores are already displaying their most colourful of colourful outfits, and this bar is not holding back! I’m loving the colourful chairs and fabric chandeliers on a charcoal backdrop.

So I just finished the Steig Larsson trilogy (which was great), but when I finish reading anything, I have a slight moment of oh-my-gosh-what-am-I-going-to-read-next. Yes. I’m a nerd in that sense. In all fairness, it’s what I do on my subway ride to and from work so that I don’t stare at other people’s cute outfits. Bad habit.

My friend told me about this website called Designer & Books. What is this you say? Well, it featuers 52 designers, from Billie Tsien to Daniel Libeskind, who post the books that they are currently reading or have read. Or, you can pick from 710 and 10 books, click on a book and see which designer has read it. It’s a great. And I think this is how I’ll pick my next read.

That’s what I’m doing. Be back soon! xo

First of all, can we talk about how it’s already February? Ok. So, I’m posting the weekend activities in 2 parts. There are just so many pictures! This was definitely a great weekend. The Come Up To My Room at The Gladstone Hotel was really cool – the first time I’ve attended, I know, I clearly have been missing out. Let’s start with that – here are the ones I probably had the biggest reaction too. Although I found pretty much most the installations great, both interesting and some chuckle-worthy, my favourite, was a room by Amanda McCavour, who used a sewing machine to create thread drawings of different furniture items, to as a whole, appear as a furnished apartment. Hers is the first image. Enjoy!

P.S. If you would like to know the names of any of the images, let me know and I’ll give it to you! Stay tuned for the Interior Design Show post!
